Newborn portraits

The best time to schedule your newborn session is during your second trimester, in order to ensure availability - although I try to leave time in my schedule to accommodate new arrivals as well. I will pre-book your session based on your due date. Since we never know exactly when your little one will arrive, I will secure the actual date once you deliver. This allows me not to over-schedule the weeks surrounding your due date.

The ideal time to photograph newborns is within their first 2 weeks of life. Beautiful images can be made at any age, but it is during this time that the most artful poses may be achieved. At this age, babies are still almost as pliable and "curly" as they were in the womb. They also usually sleep very heavily, and it's also before the onset of any possible baby acne or colic. All of these factors make calming and posing your baby easier.

Newborn sessions typically last up to two hours. This allows plenty of time for feeding/nursing, changing set-ups, and calming/nursing baby back to sleep between set-up changes. We also have a Newborn Mini session available that allows us to achieve at least one set-up in the time frame.

Upon booking, I will be reaching out to you to learn more about your family, your style, etc to prepare setups for your shoot. We have a variety of props and backdrops available as well as pre-styled digital backdrops as well. Please feel free to bring a variety of outfits with you to your session and I will assist you in deciding which will work best. 

Neutral/solid colors tend to be the best for anyone else that will be participating in the shoot. Parents should dress in layers as the studio is very warm to accommodate your newborn. This way you can take off the extra sweater and get comfortable! Please no neon colors (bright orange, coral, prink, lime, blue, etc.) These colors show up so poorly and can cast horrible shades of color onto the skin causing people to look like they are sick or glowing (not the good kind of glowing. Ha!) Any extra editing may incur additional fees.

Parents, siblings, and family portraits are all welcomed during your Newborn Session. It is the perfect way to document this exciting time in your lives!

This time is specifically designed and set up to take photos of your newborn. If you are looking to get other images such as individuals of siblings or a headshot or any other specific images that are not part of the "newborn" session, please schedule this seperately.
